College Friendships
One would not survive college or university without friends. But how do you build connections, relationships and friendships when you opted to take up college online instead of having a degree through traditional schooling?
Online schools provide a different kind of environment for students. Interaction is primarily through online discussion groups, forums, boards and e-mail. Some schools provide for chat services but primarily every thing is through writing. People get to know you with the words you write and the statements you make. Just like in any kind of an environment, you may earn the ire or gain the respect of your classmates with the way you express your thoughts and emotions.
It may be hard at first but if you are going to compare the typical online university to a certain blogging community, you will find that your virtual classroom is also composed of diverse cultures and characters. But the good thing about this is that they work and get along well with each other. Although arguments and comments may not be accepted by everyone, it is a free world where you get to say what you want to say for as long as it is within the bounds of ethics and without discriminating people.
In the end, there is still a big possibility of making lasting friendships and relationships in the virtual classroom because somehow, one will still be able to meet people who share similar interests. The internet has made the world smaller and no matter how diverse and different a number of people may be, relationships are there to build and they can even last a lifetime even beyond the term of your online courses.
