If there are masters degrees and graduate degrees being offered, there are also degrees called associates degree. These associates degree is given by different local community colleges and junior colleges. Some universities also award this type of degree when a student has completed a degree of about two years. Some associate degrees given would be an associate of arts and an associate of science among many many others. The program of an associate degree would be usually the program of the first two years of a four year college or university’s bachelors degree.
There are two types of associate degrees. The first one would be transfer degrees. The transfer degree would give the student the option to complete all general subjects before a possible transfer to a four year university. On the other hand, the second one would be career or professional degrees. In the career or professional degrees, the students are to give more focus to the main major subjects rather than the general subjects. This type of degree usually prepares students to enter the work force upon completion as they have more and deeper background about their course of study.
This associate degree is usually taken by people who are finishing up secondary programs that require not more than two years studying full time. Some would opt to take this kind of degree as it less costly. But one disadvantage of this is the limitations in the range of jobs they can secure after.
