Accredited Online Degree

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

Requirements for licensing and/or authorization for online educational institutions vary from state to state in the United States. Most states require that a learning institution be certified, authorized and/or accredited in order to award degrees to students. There are some schools out there that do not meet these requirements. In fact, there are several levels of fraud found in some educational programs and “schools.” They range from using the student’s work history as the “learning” period that earned the degree to simply selling diplomas. These “diploma mills” have been around for decades. Online programs like Degrees-R-Us promise a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in about 10 days. (There is a higher tuition fee if you want to graduate with honors!)
Now, however, there are some states (Oregon, Iowa, and South Dakota) that are cracking down on schools within their borders that grant degrees without any type of approval and legitimate accreditation. There are also some states (Wyoming, Montana, and Hawaii) that allow unaccredited universities to do business as long as they have a physical presence in the state. The problem is that when a state does pass legislation that requires accreditation, those schools simply change addresses (when you don’t have a campus, it’s not that difficult to move). The question of jurisdiction also comes into play. If the institution has an address in one state but sends out degrees from another state, then which state is responsible for it? For this reason, the most important thing to check out before you begin any kind of distance learning program is the accreditation the school has, or claims to have.

The asset we have on education.

Thursday, December 4th, 2008

When one talks about an asset, it is something that increases in value over time and in education, despite all expenses, the knowledge that is put into ones’ mind is priceless and because normal classroom education is taken for quite a while, as a matter of fact at least three to five years, an online education can be an asset in itself. When the person is done internalizing the lists of things he’s interested into considering, he can make a long or short list of these interests and get brochures of the bachelors degrees that are offered by universities that might interest him in going to. Be sure to read very carefully the career choices offered for by every course so that you have a clean view of the options you would have once you finish college. Ones you have compared all available options, then you can compare these options to the list of interests that you have already written down. Order these choices as to the level of importance and that very important of them should have a lot of the interests that you will have. In internalizing himself, a person should first of all put into good consideration interests of his and things he takes seriously as a person. Having an online degree is in a way grooming oneself for a particular vocation for his future.  Take note that one must take into consideration the career path that would be fun for him. In saying fun, I mean fun as to having little problem doing these things as a vocation and for a long time leading to a very fruitful career.
