Balancing Work, Life and Studies
Sunday, November 16th, 2008
Distance learning provides a little bit more leniency in time for those working people who decided to educate themselves through online universities or colleges. A lot of people were able to balance work and studies because of the flexibility being offered by the online school environment. But what does it really take to be able to balance out everything in life.
For some, this has posed a great challenge because most enrollees in online degree courses also have families to attend to aside from their usual daily work. It is indeed very hard to balance out everything because each aspect demands so much time and energy from you. At work, you need to meet deadlines, set and meet goals for the company’s success. At home, your partner and children demand for your attention, care and love. School demands that you spend time to read your books, understand your lessons, meet deadlines for your assignments and projects and even communicate with your classmates.
Knowing what and who to prioritize in a day matters a lot. One should be able to plan their days ahead and be armed with contingency plans if things go wrong. Set a timetable for your projects. Important and urgent matters are two different things. Both needs to be done but prioritize and label which should be done first over the other. By doing this, you will be able to finish all your tasks and set aside more time for the things that matter most to you.
After all this, it is important that you should also allot time for yourself. Set aside some times to close your eyes for a nap, read a good book, grab a cup of your favorite coffee or catch up with a friend. De-stressing after a long day of work, study or familial tasks will surely help.

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Despite the limitations that online education has in terms of interaction among fellow students and professors, this type of learning has already become popular, not only because of its practicability but also because it is now the most accessible type of learning we can have. Accredited online universities and colleges offer the flexibility of time and conservation of energy because you can study your lessons without leaving home or work. Clearly, they have become the best alternative for those who want to pursue heir dreams of getting a degree but cannot leave their other obligations behind.
There are those who would rather stay behind the limelight and just work on their tasks while there are others who are hungry for attention and feedback. Although online classes tend to lean more towards a more indirect form of interaction and communication, other people find it better and more appealing since they really need not seek the approval of other people to appreciate their tasks. However, online classes seek to raise more awareness and concern from students because feedback is very important. It is through feedback and comments that they all learn and collectively as this cultivates a culture of sensitivity and open communication among the students.
Online education has clearly arrived and it would be best to try it out and see for yourself why this has become the next best thing to traditional schooling.
