Vocational Courses Online

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

People taking vocational courses have increased due to the fact that most highly-urbanized countries have been seeking highly-skilled workers that can fill their services industries. Just recently, Canada and Australia has announced their need for more than 20,000 skilled workers, ranging from welders, cooks, bakers, construction workers and the like to fill their vacancies. This has given Filipinos more opportunity to work abroad to give their families better lives.

These courses are now being offered not only in traditional colleges and universities, but also online. Since there is more clamor for these courses to be offered, online universities and colleges are now starting to develop courses that are designed to address this need and some have even started offering them already. This just goes to show that schools have now seen the great potential of offering vocational courses to further their skills with proper knowledge and theoretical know-how.

It is important to know that the skilled labor market is an integral part of our business sector. The skills needed to build roads, cars, buildings and bridges can only be handled by the people willing to get their hands dirty and get the job done. Most of these people learned their skills by experience. But it is still necessary that they are made aware of the theories involved so that their skills are not only technically perfect but also theoretically correct as well.

It used to be that vocational courses have been looked down upon because of this does not lead to a full-fledged degree. However, it is important to note that our skilled workers make up the larger part of the labor market and their specialized skills are highly-needed especially by the bigger countries that rely on people from other countries for these jobs.

Notions About Online Education

Saturday, November 15th, 2008

Just like in any other environment, online education has its own share of wrong notions and misconceptions. For starters, studying in online colleges is just as acceptable as those who are enrolled in a regular college of university. Although you have a virtual classroom instead of the usual classroom where you have a board and pen to write your lectures or important points on, the information transmitted and imparted to students are basically the same.

It is sad that a lot of people see online courses as nothing comparable to the real thing. But of course, that is just far from the truth because if you are enrolled in an accredited online college, the degree you will be getting from it is not different from the degree that a student gets from the traditional schooling system. Others say that online subject credits cannot be transferred. This is only true if you got scammed and enrolled in an online school that is not accredited. For as long as you enrolled in an accredited university, transferring from one school or course to the other is just the same.

Although online classes are perceived to be easier, the contrary is even true. It is even harder in more aspects because interaction with your professor and co-students are virtually done. You will not be seeing how they look when they react to what you say. It’s sometimes even harder to decipher through mere words what their reactions would be since everything can be said and done in an online environment.

Even Ivy League schools now have online programs because they already trust the system and it is in keeping with the dynamic times. Although time is in your hands when it comes to finishing your online studies, the determination and focus to finish it on time becomes a harder challenge than for those who are enrolled in traditional schools.

Benefits of Online Courses

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Online courses are primarily classes that are taken virtually by means of the web as compared to traditional classes that are taken inside a regular classroom in a school campus. Online courses are now popular because of its flexible scheduling that will allow you to finish your college degree in a place and time that is best and convenient for you without totally sacrificing time for work, family and other activities that you have been used to doing. Although there are still classes that would require you to go to the school for testing, most of the course outlines or syllabi are available online and can be completed at a time that is best for the student.

What is good about these online courses is that course materials are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can study at a time when every one’s asleep and distractions are kept at a minimum in the comfort of your own study area. Instructors seem to be more approachable and open to feedback because they fully understand that online courses are conducted more differently than those that are taught in the regular school setting. Chat rooms, discussion boards and online forums are available for the students and the teachers to interact and seek answers to questions. The open line of communication is just present among the students and teachers, making the environment more relaxed and uninhibited.

It is important that these things are made known to the prospective student so that he would feel more at ease and at home with his online schooling. Not only will it be fun, but it will also be a wonderful experience.
